Labor Day/Birthday Camping

We had a great time camping at Island Park over Labor Day. We started the weekend with a steak and potatoes dinner for Jake's birthday with funfetti cupcakes for dessert. Brian did a great job grilling the steaks! Jake opened some presents and then we had a campfire. The boys went fishing for crawdads late at night. On Saturday Amy and I went for a great walk and saw a mom moose and two baby moose about 50 feet from us! We laid on the island to get a little sun and then the boys started their widdeling and contests. Jake make a bow and arrow and Zach made a spear. Then they had contests of who could hit the targets the best. At one point Ty was pulling them on a bike to simulate riding a horse. It was pretty funny! Of course many card games were played and the time around the campfire was quite enteraining with the new games of fuzzy duck, camping memory, and the vegetable name game. We all laughed hysterically for a good hour. We make the first smore out of two toffee cookies with a giant marshmallow in between! On Sunday it was time to pack up and head home before the massive winds could blow us away!

Chase's Birthday Bbque and Minute to Win It

Before school started we had one last bbque to celebrate Chase's birthday. We had so much fun. I have not laughed as much and as hard as I did during this bbque in a long time. We started with lots of appetizers and some card games. I got to play with Abigail for a little bit which is always a fun treat! Then we had burgers, brauts, chicken drummies, fruit, and salads for dinner. After dinner we had German chocolate cake and sang to Chase. Then it was time for MINUTE TO WIN IT! Brian was the host and we all played funny ridiculous games to try and win the final prize...a duck hat. We had lots of fun and lots of laughs. Jake won the duck hat! He celebrated by trying to light sparklers with gasoline...not the best idea in my opinion! To top off the night we were sitting in the drive way when a chicken went running by. You will see the picture in the post. I never thought we lived in the country but I guess that is a sign we do! It was the perfect end to one of the best summers!

Grandpa's Funeral and Visit Home

On July 22, 2010 Grandpa Cliff Warling, my mom's dad, passed into heaven. He was the last grandparent alive in both families. It was very sad to lose him but he lived a good long 95 years and was ready to rest with God. Jake and I flew home in August for the funeral and family time. It is always sad to lose a loved one but it is good to see everyone and catch up. We had a military funeral for Grandpa and he was buried in his recipe box. He was a very good chef and owned many restaurants throughout his life. We had a big dinner at our house that night to celebrate his life. My mom had many wonderful things to tell all of us about what Grandpa had told her about all of us. During the weekend we went to Pike's Place Market, visited Hank and Rachel's house, had a wonderful salmon dinner at Uncle Dave and Aunt Sue's house, and did some wine tasting. It was wonderful to see our family from Texas, Aunt Bev and Uncle John.
